My First Born

My First Born

While cleaning out my attic, packing to prepare for a huge move, I came across this picture of my first born as a newborn. The picture is well over 17 years old, as now she will be turning 18 in a few months. Time seems like it flew by me as she is presently transitioning into becoming a woman, trying to figure this life out and find her own path (as we all are).

There are so many reasons I am proud of her, but for starters, she is a tremendously thoughtful, intelligent, talented, kind hearted, and very beautiful inside and out. I can only hope that this move I am making puts us closer relationally as much as it will locationally. Her whole life I’ve only wanted to be close to her but have had many challengesβ€”including but not limited to, my own process of maturing. But even if our relationship doesn’t improve anytime soon, I am still very proud of this one and will always be in her corner rooting her on for whatever God has in store for her. I’d say that I am a very blessed man to call her my daughter. And fathers, hear me on this: cherish the precious time you have with your children while you can. They will soon grow up to become us and there’s no gong back for do-overs. Enjoy every moment and make the most of whatever the circumstances are for your fatherhood. Our children need our sacrificial love, intentional affection, instruction/wisdom, humility and most of all, our leading example.
